I have an 8in 8 out board that is working with Audacity. What I’m looking for is a way to make a “Meter Bridge” just showing the input level of the 8 lines in. Does anyone know of a program for this or where I’d start writing my own. I have the idea. My son has a degree in programing. If I can give him clear instructions he can write it I think
this kind of simple program like this can be done, have you tried with chatgpt gemini or other advanced thinking model?
Hi MAndreas !
I am probably one of the least qualified to answer this question, but given that you got few replies, I thought of sharing my thoughts.
- Audacity for windows has a vumeter showing the level of the input. I guess you are running Audacity in raspbian/linux. Are you sure there is no way to activate such a visualization ?
- In the case that you mean with “meter bridge” anything other than the regular vu-meter visualization that comes with audacity, one possibility is taking the source code of audacity ( it is an open source software) and make the modification to include your visualisation. This is a hard work because it is an advanced software. Your son might get advice in the audacity forum.
- There are “frameworks” for routing audio among applications. One of them is the “jack” connector. Your son might write a “meter bridge” according to the jack API, which must receive the audio, display the desired metering visualization and then forward the signal back to the framework. Then, having jack installed, you configure jack system to read the audio, pass it through your meter bridge and then forward it to audacity.
There is a funny quote about art critics being like eunuchs, who know how the thing is done but cannot do it themselves. I am a bit in this position now, but I hope my brainstorming ideas can lead somewhere.
