Lightweight ESPHome Sendspin firmware for the (old) Muse Luxe — native components, ESPHome 2026.10, stable multiroom in PCM

Hi all,

My first-gen Muse Luxe was headed for a drawer, so I spent a few weeks making it a reliable Sendspin player for Music Assistant. The result is a stripped-down ESPHome config, 100 %
native components (no external_components, no PRs):

Why not just the official esphomeLuxeMusic? On the original ESP32-WROVER it runs out of memory: 2 MB Sendspin buffer, mixer, two resamplers and an announcement pipeline. Music starts and
then drops. My config keeps one media path (sendspin_source → speaker → ES8388), a 1 MiB buffer and 100 ms I²S buffers, and removes captive portal, improv, battery sensor and the startup
sound.

A few findings that may help people in the “no sound” and “stuttering” threads:

  • No sound with the native es8388 component: it never writes DACPOWER (0x04), so LOUT1/ROUT1 stay off. Fix: i2s_mclk_pin: GPIO0 + mclk_multiple: 256, and a select.set: LINE1 on
dac_output at boot. No need for the old driver.
  • Random reboots every 2–5 min in group playback: heap corruption in the FLAC decoder on this chip. I advertise codecs: [pcm] and MA transcodes to PCM 48 kHz/16-bit mono — rock solid
since. Opus overflows the sync task stack, so it’s PCM or nothing for now.
  • “Timeouts, is it hardware?”: at the default max output_power (20.5 dBm) with the amp enabled the CPU froze silently (no log, no network). 11.5 dB fixed it. Looks like an RF brownout,
    not a broken unit.
  • Player stays unavailable after a reboot: add the speaker’s fixed IP to “manual discovery IP addresses” in the Sendspin provider, so it doesn’t depend on mDNS.
  • ESPHome 2026.10 requires MA ≥ 2.10.7 (encrypted Sendspin). MA updates have also reset my player’s codec/delay settings twice — worth re-checking after each update.

Limitations: no voice assistant, no battery readout, PCM only. It’s a music player, nothing else. The README has the GPIO map and MA settings; JOURNAL.md has the full diagnostics if you
like backtraces.

Feedback welcome, especially from anyone willing to try FLAC on ESPHome 2026.10 (new microFLAC) and tell me whether it still crashes.
