Hi, what do you think: Is it a problem for the Luxe that it is powered and running 24/7? Is it there a risk of fire?
this is not a problem ![]()
I would be cautious of leaving it plugged in 24/7 due to it containing a battery which would then be on charge while presumably unattended sometimes. There is a reason cleaners on cruise ships will unplug power banks which are on charge unattended, and I’ve personally had a battery speaker start smoking and set off the fire alarm while I was out. It wasn’t with this device, but arriving home to the fire alarm sounding and a room full of smoke is quite a shock. Luckily I was only out briefly and it didn’t start a fire, but it took a long time to get rid of the smell. Rooms had to be aired over a few days, all clothes had to be re-washed, carpets had to be thoroughly cleaned, …
Do you have home automation? You could use a smart USB switch, and set up an automation to turn it off when the house is unoccupied. That way it is only on charge when you are home. I’m not sure how much safer that is or if it degrades the battery more quickly.
It would be great if there was a version of the luxe or radio without a battery to avoid this issue. My understanding is the battery also helps with power draw fluctuations though. To have a device without it may require USB PD.
Yes, there is always a risk of fire leaving a battery on charge. Batteries should not be left on charge unattended.
My previous reply seems to have been removed? If a moderator could explain why it would be much appreciated. If it is due to inaccuracy, I would be very interested in the testing/certifications which explain why my statement was inaccurate.
Thank you for your answer - I also read your first answer - you are right. I will use a wifi-power-socket to turn power on/off.
Yes, the previous message was flagged by the system. Put it back.
Anyway, using an external device seems overkill. A more elegant solution is inside the Luxe, we already have the IP5306 I2C version, and this BMS can be controlled over I2C to stop charging if needed.
Please check our library:
IP5306_GetChargerEnabled()
Any LLM should be able to handle this in a minute.
Thanks for your answer - honestly I don’t want to touch the code - I’m glad that the system is running now.
Is it possible to disconnect the battery?
