MUSE PROTO - Loud click before playing

I have a MUSE PROTO board which I’ve added using ESPHome to my Home Assistant setup using ESPHome Media Players.

I can play mp3 files from HomeAssistant through the PROTO on-board speaker (or an external speaker) and they sound fine, however every time I play a file there is a loud “click” before it starts playing. The “click” is at least as loud as the mp3 itself.

In my application this is quite a problem because I want to use the board for short notification sounds - I don’t want to hear a click and then the notification.

Any suggestions welcomed!

Interestingly I just saved my test mp3 as a .wav and the click doesn’t happen.

Although this is an OK workaround for me, I’ll leave this here in case it is helpful to someone else.
