I’m a newbee to all this, I don’t know how to proceed right now.
I plugged in the usb-c to my computer, and also an optical cable from the audio port to my AV-Receiver. When I turn on the switch, it says “Mn Cast Test” or something, seems to want to go through the test. At the end of step 4, which it says “Test #4: sound ok”. And then it stuck. All LEDs are off, I try to flash the firmware, but Edge browser can’t detect it.
Restart by unplug the usb-c or turn off and on the switch will restart the testing process.
What should I do now? How do I starts the “Squeezelite” which is suppose to be flashed?
Same problem here. But the flash software manual not much help as I can seem to find it when I plug it into my macbook pro 16 inch 2021 using apple usb-c cable. The screen is not showing anything in the display (when connecting it to a charger I see the tests app which stuck on test #4 with: “OK”).
What can I do here in order to make it work with my mac and flash it?
I did, tried basically everything, 5 different USB-C cables, 2 USB-C to USB-A cables, different computers, installing a bench of drivers and nothing works. I’m pretty much sure by now that the unit is malfunctioned.
Seems like it can only work with no data USB-C cable which shows me the tests app. Whenever I connect it with a USB-C with data all I see is a black screen and my computer don’t recognize it so I can’t use this to flush it.
Do you have any other suggestion for how to debug it?
If not, what can I do in case the unit is actually malfunctioned?
it’s unlikely to be broken, also there is no driver needed.
Be sure that the black switch is in ON position.
Then in chrome apps.raspiaudio.com Mn CAst - Squeezelite click on Connect
I think it’s more an authorization thing try both:
Browser-side: You can change or pre-approve that under Settings → Privacy & security → Site settings → Additional permissions → Serial ports / USB devices / HID devices. support.google.com
check those 2:
OS-side: Since Ventura Apple laptops ship in “Accessory Security” (a.k.a. USB-Restricted) mode. The first time you plug the Mn Cast board in macOS pops a system alert that says “Chrome (or any host app) wants to connect to USB accessory”. Click Allow and you’re done. If you miss the prompt—or you keep getting asked—open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Allow accessories to connect and set it to “Ask for new accessories” or “Always”.
Hey, thanks for the new instructions. But already made sure these are set as you suggested.
Just so you know, I am a Senior developer with more than 15 years of experience so I know how these things should work and I’m running out of ideas here Would appreciate more debug instructions from your side.
It uses a CP2104 chipset for the serial USB but this does not need a driver usually on Mac. This does not show as it is tested by me before shipping the chance that it died in shipping in close to 0.
You picture only shows Bluetooth devices so was thinking that authorisation on serial.
Try to blow some air in the USB port maybe something like dust on the data pairs but unlikely.
Maybe you have a friend with a PC or Linux to give it a try on their Chrome.
I see. Thanks I will try it and will let you know.
One question, when I connect it directly to my computer using a data USB-C and then turn it on, should the display show my the testing app and ask me to click to button, or should it stay off?
In my case it stays off, but when I connect with a USB-C to USB-A to the computer (or when I connect it using any cable to a charger) the display is on, but still the computer can’t recognize it.
