Problem flashing Muse Luxe v2

Hi - I have recently received my Muse Luxe v2 and wanted to flash for use as a voice assistant with Home Assistant. I followed the instructions as per this page using Chrome on Ubuntu, but unfortunately somewhere in the process something went wrong and the muse does not boot anymore. When booting normally, I get the following messages from the serial connection, after which it immediately reboots:

When booting and pushing the “hidden” button in the 3.5 jack to get it into download mode, I get the following messages repeatedly every second or so, and using esptool or esphome to erase or flash fails.

Using esptool to erase the flash gives the following:

esptool.py --chip esp32 --port /dev/ttyUSB1 --no-stub erase_flash
esptool.py v4.8.1

Crystal is 40MHz

A fatal error occurred: Invalid head of packet (0x65): Possible serial noise or corruption.

I tried soldering/connecting RX, TX, IO0, IO2 and EN (currently without a 1uF capacitor to GND) on a breadboard using an FT232H but also this does not work and gives the same messages as above. Any suggestions how to fix this?

Kind regards,
Joost van de Wiel

Sorry but because the enclosure was opened and wires were soldered before contacting us, the unit is no longer under warranty, so we can’t replace it.

you can try to reflash it with apps.raspiaudio.com
if it can’t be detected : OFF -hold the hidden button- ON then try again to flashit

thx

Installing Home Assistant on a Raspiaudio Muse Lux results in the error "

E (1734) spi_flash: Detected size(4096k) smaller than the size in the binary image header(8192k). Probe failed.

" The device reboots and produces the same error over and over again.

See https://github.com/RASPIAUDIO/esphomeLuxe/issues/5#issuecomment-2802556559

problem identified "Detected size(4096k) smaller than the size in the binary image header(8192k). "

Fix will be provided later today.

Hi Gatonero!
a new release of luxe_microWW.bin is available (esphomeLuxe)
It should fix your problem…
Please keep me informed

Hello sbar,

I successfully completed the new installation. After the installation, I expected to be asked about the WiFi network, but that didn’t happen. How can I now connect my Muse Lux to my WiFi network?

After some resets i could download the log. Here it is: (sorry that I can’t ubloud a text file)

Method 2:

Thanks a lot, that worked. :slightly_smiling_face:

I am glad that my Muse Luxe is no longer a stumbling block after weeks.

Where do we get this file and how do we install it? Im having the same issue

Still getting the error: ```
Virtual address not enough for PSRAM, map as much as we can. 4MB is mapped

Device gets stuck in a boot loop.

Please, give me more details !
How did you load your Luxe?

  • By compiling luxe_microWW.yaml with esphome ?
  • By loading from raspiaudio.github.io ?
  • By loading luxe_microWW.bin using esptool.py ?

LR

Through http://raspiaudio.github.io/ Every time I’ve ever tried to compile with esphome, there are so many errors, that I give up. Will an updated version be published at http://raspiaudio.github.io/ anytime soon?

Hi rgnet5 !
His site gives the latest version which works well…
I will try to help you step by step…
Question #1 : Have you initialized your WiFi credentials?

LR
(Send me as many details as possible…)

As of yesterday, the version at raspiaudio.github.io causes the Muse Luxe to fail during boot, with the error “Virtual address not enough for PSRAM, map as much as we can. 4MB is mapped”. The boot process loops indefinitely and the AP never loads, so WiFi credentials cannot be set. As documented here: Installing Home Assistant on Muse Luxe not possible · Issue #5 · RASPIAUDIO/esphomeLuxe · GitHub. So unless the version on the website has been updated in the past 24 hours, it will not work. I am however able to load an older version from this site: Ready-Made Projects — ESPHome which does work, but has a separate issue of repeating TTS messages in Home Assistant as documented here after upgrading from 2025.3.4 to 2025.4.0 esphome tts keeps repeating · Issue #142216 · home-assistant/core · GitHub

Hi!
" Virtual address not enough for PSRAM…" is just a warning and does not stop the loading process…
Probably your Luxe is looping waiting for WiFi connection…
Can vous send me a copy of your screen ?
Thx
Lr

Thank you, but that is not what is happening. It never gets to the point where it scans the Wi-Fi networks or starts up the internal access point. I do know how to connect to Wi-Fi and enter the credentials for this device. It loops over and over again and eventually the web installer hangs up and freezes, and I have to close out and start again. I have tried this installation from two different systems with the same end result. I have successfully been using the speaker for quite a while with older versions of the ESP Home Luxe firmware. When I saw there was a new version available I tried to update and it failed. I have reverted back to an older version, and it is working to some extent, but experiencing the repeating TTS messages, which seems to be a problem in this version of ESP Home and not the Muse Luxe itself.

Please, send me your logs so I can help you!..
