Use Muse Radio as alaram clock

Hello,
I’ve been using a few Logitech Squeezebox Radios and also use them as alarm clocks. Since the devices are getting quite old, I’m considering replacing them with Muse Radio. I have a few questions about their functionality. Can I do the following with Muse Radio?

  • Use it as an alarm clock?
  • Set an alarm time locally and centrally via Lyrion Music Server or the Squeeze smartphone app?
  • Stream music to wake up from the LMS?
  • Bridge a power outage with the built-in battery and wake up with a fallback to local sounds or MP3 music on the SD card?

Thanks in advance
Best regards, Thomas

For the first 3 queries I expect the answer is yes - since this is LMS functionality and independent of the player.
However, not so confident about the last one since this would rely on functionality in Squeezelite ESP32 … and that might have been removed in the port to ESP-32 to save space.

Thanks for your answers, let’s see if anyone else has a comment on the last point

Hi, to my knowledge, SD cards are not supported in Squeezelite-ESP32. However, I don’t see any issue with playing a local file from your LMS. Just keep in mind that if you want to be able to play music off-grid, you’ll probably need both your router and your LMS server to be connected to a UPS.

The Radio is a good device, but i’m not very objective as I’ve made it

Hello Raspiaudio,
Thanks for the reply.
The LMS server and router are UPS-backed, but not the Wi-Fi access points; they’re spread out and too far away.
Too bad, the old Squeece Radios simply played a built-in sound in this case. Otherwise, the Muse Radio would meet all my requirements.
I’ll take another look to see if Squeecelite has a solution for this.

The ESP-32 devices behave similar to SB Boom rather than a SB Radio.
SB Boom had fall back alarm capability but it was simple tone and I’m nto sure how it works. To mimic Boom alarm fallback, it would need development work on Squeeze-ESP-32 and since most ESP-32 device do not have an SD card - the generic solution would have a fixed alarm sound in memory and that also depends on what space is available.

I bought a Muse Radio recently. I want to change a button function for snooze/sleep like Boom’s top button but at present don’t have development time - hopefully in a few months.
