RaspiAudio - 8In/8out Sofware Compatibility?

I would like to use the 8In/8Out board with a Raspberry Pi 5… . ….

Does anyone here have experience with using this hardware with Max/MSP and/or the Processing Language?

Thank you,

TomC

What DAW/Audio SW are people using? Audacity? Reaper?

Thank you,

Hi Tom,

Once the driver is installed, the 8In/8Out board is available as a Linux audio device. Software compatibility depends on whether the application runs on the Pi and supports multichannel audio. Most of them does but check it.

Remember this board is only for PI5

For the applications you mentioned:

  • REAPER would be my first choice for an eight-channel DAW setup. It offers a native Linux ARM64 / aarch64 version , suitable for Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit. You would then configure the audio device and input/output channels in REAPER. Download
  • Audacity supports multichannel recording, but its documented playback is limited to stereo, so it is less suitable if you need eight independent outputs. Multichannel documentation
  • Max/MSP does not have an official native Linux/Raspberry Pi version; the supported desktop platforms are Windows and macOS. Running Max on a separate computer would require an additional communication or audio-streaming setup. Supported platforms
  • Processing is a possible route, and its Sound library includes multichannel output support. However, the exact library/backend configuration needs checking on the Pi; I cannot confirm a tested eight-input/eight-output setup with this board. Sound library

Start with our installation guide to verify the hardware before configuring your application.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply.
I neglected to notice that Max/MSP is not available on the RPi.

However, pd is available on the RPi; I will try that.
